First Trace Releases Kinnosa 5.0 Engineering Document Management System

June 21, 2011 – Phoenix, AZ – First Trace, Inc. has released Kinnosa 5.0 for Engineering Document Management (EDM) with innovative new functionality to manage CAD drawings, Office files and related documentation. Spotlighted in the latest software release are Kinnosa’s advanced CAD Attribute Linking capabilities, a browser-based Web Portal, a new Document Biography service that presents lifecycle data in a clear and concise format, plus updated integrations with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MicroStation, Inventor, DraftSight, MS Office and more.

The ability to link data in CAD drawings to other systems can have a profound impact on streamlining engineering operations. Important CAD objects include title blocks, layouts, sheet sets, text boxes and many other critical data attributes used by manufacturing and other departments. Kinnosa 5.0 introduces a revolutionary new CAD Attribute Linking capability that can connect this object data to other systems. This feature allows engineers to enter data in one system and then have it update across all linked data stores and systems immediately.

In response to customer requests for an easily accessible dialog that provides a complete history of a file, First Trace developed the Document Biography for Kinnosa. Accessible through Windows Explorer, the Document Biography provides complete information about the lifecycle of a document including versions, references, properties, renditions, audit histories, workflows and engineering change notices. Previous versions of files and references can be managed directly through the Document Biography.

The addition of a Web Portal option extends the value of your data to remote users. Files stored in the secure Kinnosa Repository can be searched, accessed and managed using an Internet browser. Standard EDM functionality is available through the Web Portal including check out/in, copy out, release, search, properties and more. The Web Portal provides an Internet accessible entry point to aggregate corporate data, automate file management and personalize information for end users.

Integration with the latest CAD tools allows engineers to access Kinnosa functionality directly through AutoCAD 2008-2011, SolidWorks 2008-2011, Inventor 2010-2012, MicroStation V8-V8i, DraftSight 2011 and others. Integration with MS Office 2008-2011 and OpenOffice 3.0+ gives all users access to Kinnosa functionality through these familiar desktop applications.

Kinnosa 5.0 leverages the advancements made to the product family’s Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), including the new Tego™ technology, Records Management Service and flexible Taxonomy functionality. More information about these new software advancements will be announced in detail in the next month.
