The Kinnosa Solution. Unlike other
vendor solutions, including PDMWorks, Kinnosa streamlines business content management by
unifying distributed data into a virtual repository. First Trace developed Data Distribution for PDMWorks, powered by Kinnosa, with
special adapters to allow seamless access to the PDMWorks environment. Authors create
and update files at the source, giving access rights to specific users or groups of users.
The authors can specify relations with other files housed in other locations and in other
repositories such as PDMWorks, AutoCAD or SolidWorks. As documents are updated and new
files are released, they are immediately available to the network through Kinnosa´s
virtual repository. The Kinnosa Enterprise Content Bus (ECB) allows the user to search
documents in the virtual repository and easily access them to make updates, as if they
were being stored locally. These documents are updated and made available to distributed
locations, in real time.
PDMWorks and other solutions often tout their ability to replicate design files across
distributed organizations. Documents are saved locally and then duplicated to other data
repositories. This unfortunately is not a truly distributed data hub, but rather the
appearance of one. This type of data replication actually goes against engineers´ real
need to have access to a single source of up-to-date, accurate information. Kinnosa
provides users with the ability to capture information locally and control it locally,
but also provide distributed access to original data, based on user access levels. Data
manipulation and updates can be made to official documents rather than document copies.
Why Is It Important? The use of multiple
CAD tools by engineers is not uncommon, especially between 2D and 3D design. PDMWorks and
other CAD document management tools often use proprietary data vaults that lock information
to outside applications. Engineers need the ability to seamlessly access data from different
repositories to combine into complete assemblies. Kinnosa makes this possible. For example,
a Kinnosa customer could access a 3D SolidWorks document, stored in the PDMWorks repository,
using the 2D AutoCAD interface.
The PDMWorks data vault can store non-engineering documents; however the PDMWorks interface
must be used to access this information. This prevents most non-engineers from accessing
that information due to lack of CAD software and CAD software training.
The Kinnosa solution allows companies to avoid the time and expense of building special
repositories, replicating content and maintaining it. Kinnosa manages content from its
source location and provides a unified view of disparate document management systems and
distributed data repositories. It provides global access to data, systems and content
without creating complex architectures, writing program code, extending project times
or expensive systems integration.
With Kinnosa, engineers can rely on the notion that the data they are accessing from the
virtual repository is indeed the most up-to-date and current version. They do not have
to worry about accessing an outdated, replicated document, but rather the original source
document. The complete traceability provided by Kinnosa also protects current documents
from accidental deletion.
What Is The Value To Your Business? Kinnosa
is capable of integrating disparate applications to get a unified view of information, which
is a key differentiator of Kinnosa over other solutions. Kinnosa brings measurable ROI savings
as it simplifies the business process, leading to decreased complexity and requiring fewer
resources to maintain and expand your business. You save money by making technology conform to
your existing network and data systems, rather than making your entire system comply with a new
application.
With Kinnosa, related business functions across a distributed enterprise and multiple companies
can be coordinated into a cohesive process. Regulatory compliance, management engineering,
manufacturing and quality control applications can be streamlined through unified data.
Benefits of Kinnosa. Kinnosa users
are given the ultimate advantage: choice. Kinnosa is the only document and process
management solution that provides a truly distributed data environment. By initiating
Kinnosa at your company, you will be able to:
- Streamline content management by unifying distributed data into a virtual repository
- Access and integrate data from PDMWorks, AutoCAD and SolidWorks data repositories
- Access data in global locations, departments and companies
- Manage workflow processes across a distributed enterprise
- Access the PDMWorks environment without using the PDMWorks interface
- Update files at the source
- Set access rights to specific users or groups
- Specify relationships with other files housed in distributed locations and repositories
- Update data and documents in real time
